Built in Britain. Powered by Perkins. Ready when the grid isn’t.

If the lights go out, you do not want a generator that was bolted together on the other side of the world, sat on a dock for six weeks, and then sold with a smile and a vague warranty. You want a set that was built here, with a British Perkins engine at the heart of it, a sensible lead time, and a team in Chesterfield who will still pick up the phone in five years’ time.

That is what we do.

Who we are

GES Power Ltd is a family-run business based at Cavendish Business Park in Chesterfield. We supply, manufacture, install and look after diesel generators from small domestic units right up to 2000kVA industrial plant. We have been in this trade for decades — 30 years of bespoke electrical engineering around generator systems, and it shows in the way we specify a job.

We are not a call centre with a catalogue. We size the set properly, build or source it properly, deliver it with a HIAB, install it to UK standards, commission it, and then service it. Nationwide. Evenings and weekends when we have to. 24/7 when it actually matters.

What we actually do

  • New and used diesel generators, 8kVA home sets through to 2000kVA industrial machines

  • Standby sets that start automatically through an ATS when the mains fails

  • Prime power sets built to run as the main supply

  • Synchronising / load-sharing plant for sites that need more than one machine

  • Silent canopy sets (typically 65–70dB at 7 metres on the acoustic range) and open sets

  • UK-built control panels, AMF panels and ATS switchgear from 20A to 3200A

  • Domestic backup packages for houses

  • Commercial and industrial turnkey installs

  • Off-grid and hybrid kits — Perkins generator, Victron kit, solar and LiFePO4 batteries

  • Bulk fuel tanks, fuel transfer, exhaust and extract systems

  • Genuine Perkins service kits and common spares

  • Fixed-price maintenance and emergency call-out

Brands we work with every week: Perkins first and foremost, plus Cummins, Kohler, Pramac, Doosan and Baudouin. Controllers are typically Deep Sea Electronics — another proper British company.

The bit we want to talk about: UK-made British Perkins generators

A lot of “UK generators” on the market are imported engines in an imported box with a Union Jack sticker on the brochure. Ours are not that.

We manufacture Perkins-powered generator sets in the UK. That is on the product pages for a reason. Open sets and silent canopy sets, standby and prime, single machines and synchronising plant. Perkins engines — the ones designed and built with the heritage of Peterborough — married to a set that is assembled, canopied, tanked, wired and tested here.

On the bigger plant you will see it written plainly: UK Manufactured Perkins. On the smaller sets we have taken years of install experience and put it into machines we are happy to stand behind — Perkins engines, super-silent canopies where needed, battery charger and jacket water heater already on the machine, parts that we can actually get next day.

Why Perkins? Because they start, they sip fuel rather than gulp it, and when something does need doing the parts and the knowledge still exist in this country. Combined with a UK-built set you get a machine that is specified for British weather, British fuel, British wiring regs and British noise limits — not a compromise that was designed for a different climate and a different grid.

Quality that is not a slogan

Quality on a generator is boring until it is not.

It is a bunded, insulated fuel tank that does not weep across the yard. It is anti-vibration mounts that stop the thing shaking itself to bits. It is a tropical radiator and proper protection so it does not overheat the first warm week in July. It is a Deep Sea controller that actually talks sense when there is a fault. It is an ISO works test before it leaves, not a quick run-up in the car park.

It is also the switchgear. We design and build ATS and control panels in the UK. Bespoke more often than not — 99% of the panel jobs need a custom touch. High-grade branded components, wired for UK electrical standards, sitting in a proper IP-rated enclosure. The generator is only half the system. If the changeover panel is a mystery box from nowhere, the whole job is a liability.

Lead times that belong to this country

When a set is manufactured here you are not waiting for a container to clear, a ship to move, or a factory on another continent to find a slot. You are in the production queue of a UK build. That means realistic dates, the ability to tweak the spec before it is too late, and a machine that can be inspected and load-tested without booking a flight.

For anyone who has ever been told “sixteen weeks, maybe twenty, the boat left late” — you already know why that matters. Hospitals, data rooms, farms, factories and homes do not run on “maybe twenty”.

From survey to handover — and after

We do not drop a pallet and vanish.

Enquiry and a proper conversation about load, not a guess. Site survey nationwide. Design of the fuel, exhaust, plinth and panel. HIAB delivery and positioning — including the awkward plant rooms, tight yards and rooftops. Mechanical and electrical install by people who do this every week. Commissioning and load testing. Training so you are not staring at a controller at 2am.

Then the unglamorous bit that keeps the set alive: scheduled servicing, genuine Perkins kits, remote monitoring where it is useful, and a 24/7 line when it fails to start. Engineers out of our UK base, with the common Cummins, Perkins and Kohler parts on the van.

Same approach for a house that needs the heating and freezer to survive a winter cut, and for a commercial site that cannot lose a shift.

Buy British. Pay tax. Fund the important debates.

There is a simple extra reason to buy a generator that is actually made here.

The money stays in this country. Wages, steel, engines, panels, fuel tanks, paint, testing, delivery, service vans — that is PAYE, NI, VAT and corporation tax going through British books instead of disappearing into a shipping line and a factory you will never visit.

Which means there is a little more in the pot for our wonderful leaders to sit in Parliament and give their full, solemn attention to the issues of the day. Things of the very highest national importance. Things like why our songs keep dying a death in the Eurovision Song Contest.

We cannot promise the next entry will score more than nul points. We can promise that a UK-built Perkins set from Chesterfield will start when the grid does not — which, on balance, is the more useful of the two.

If you want a set that is genuinely a British product, with a lead time that makes sense and a team that still answers the phone after the invoice is paid, get in touch.
