Loyalty Through the Hard Times – What Sheffield Wednesday Teaches Us About Reliability

I’m a Sheffield Wednesday fan through and through. Home and away. Every match. Even during last season’s absolute terror show, when it felt like everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

I never missed a game. Not because it was easy or enjoyable – some of those afternoons and evenings were pretty grim – but because that’s what you do when something matters to you. You show up. You stay loyal. You keep believing that better times will come if the foundations are solid.

This Saturday I had the chance to meet the new owner, David Storch, and CEO David Bruce. It was brilliant. After everything the club has been through, standing there speaking to the people now responsible for rebuilding it properly felt significant. There’s a sense of fresh energy and seriousness about the way they’re approaching things – not just quick fixes, but proper foundations.

The Parallel with Business

Running a power business isn’t all that different.

At GES Power (Generator Man) we deal with companies that simply cannot afford for things to fail when it matters. Food processors, manufacturers, critical sites – places where a power cut isn’t an inconvenience, it’s a serious problem.

Just like a football club going through a tough season, many businesses only discover the weaknesses in their systems when the pressure is on. A poorly specified ATS panel that nuisance trips. A generator that isn’t maintained properly. No real plan for when the mains fails.

The ones who come through strongest are the ones who invest in reliability before the crisis hits. They choose quality. They plan properly. They work with people who take the long view rather than the cheap, short-term option.

Showing Up Matters

Whether it’s standing on the terraces in the rain during a heavy defeat, or answering an emergency call at 2am when a client’s power has gone, the principle is the same: you show up. You do the hard yards. You build something that lasts.

Meeting David Storch and David Bruce reinforced that feeling for me. New ownership, new energy, and a clear sense that they understand the responsibility that comes with the badge. I’m looking forward to seeing where the club goes from here.

And I’ll still be there – home and away – just as I always have been.

In the same way, we’ll keep showing up for our customers. Designing and installing proper power systems, responding when things go wrong, and helping businesses stay resilient no matter what the “season” throws at them.

Up the Owls. And if you need reliable power that won’t let you down when it counts – you know where we are.
